Ghaleb Daouk, MD, SM

Ghaleb Daouk, MD, SM Founding Chair

Dr. Ghaleb Daouk is a consulting physician in pediatric renal diseases (nephrology) at Boston Children's Hospital and Assistant Professor, Harvard Medical School.

  • He earned his MD degree from the American University of Beirut (AUB) Faculty of Medicine. 
  • He  holds a Master degree in management from MIT's Sloan School of Management of technology.  
  • He co-founded a biotechnology company based on his post - doctoral research. 
  • Following his training, he was appointed to the faculty and become the medical director of the MGH pediatric renal division.
  • Dr. Daouk is actively involved in non-profit academic and cultural organizations serving as elected member on the Board of trustees of AUB (2014-17). He currently serves on Syracuse University's College of Arts and sciences board of Visitors with over 20 years tenure. He is a founding Director of the Makassed Foundation of America, and member of the organization's Board of Trustees. He is a founding member of the Center for Arab-American Philanthropy in Michigan, and the Center for Arab American Cultural Center in the Boston area, and co-founder of the Boston-based Center of Arabic Culture.


Steven Howard - ATFL

Steven Howard Vice Chair

Steven Howard is the director of policy and outreach at the American Task Force on Lebanon (ATFL).  

  • Before joining ATFL, Howard served for two years as a youth asset builder with the Peace Corps in Morocco and spent several years advocating for the rights of religious minorities in the Middle East. 
  • He has a Master of Arts degree in Human Rights from the Catholic University of America and a Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science from Azusa Pacific University. 

Fares Yared, MD, MSc, MPH

Fares Yared, MD,MSc,MPH Executive Director


Fares Yared is a Health Economics and Market Access manager at CVRx, Inc. 

  • Fares implements utilization strategies for CVRx's medical device by enhancing value propositions, generating evidence through outcomes research, engaging payers and resolving reimbursement issues.
  • Before joining CVRx, Fares earned a Master degree in Public Health from Johns Hopkins University (with a Dean's MPH Scholarship Award)
  • He earned his Medical Degree  (2019) and Master Degree in Biomechanics (2017) from Université Saint Joseph in Beirut, Lebanon
  • He practiced internal medicine for 3 years before moving to the US
  • Fares also served in the disaster relief committee of the Lebanese Hospital Geitaoui in  the wake of August 4th 2020 Beirut port explosion.


Khalil Rouhana Treasurer


Khalil G. Rouhana is the Co-Founder and Managing Principal at LGV GROUP, a commercial real estate development company in Northern Virginia. 

  • He is President of GPR Inc., which specializes in commercial building enclosures and cladding. 
  • Mr. Rouhana is an innovator in the glazing industry and the recipient of multiple awards. 
  • He is an active board member of the American Task Force on Lebanon (ATFL). 

Mark Nawfal, Esq Secretary


Mark Nawfal is a senior attorney at Clark Hill.  

  • Mark represents multiple clients in the energy industry in investing in oil and gas assets, negotiating leases, acquisitions of oil and gas companies and structuring joint ventures fordevelopment of technology.

Haytham Kaafarani, MD,MPH,FACS Chief Medical Officer


Haytham Kaafarani is a Professor of Surgery at Harvard Medical School, the Hospital Medical Director for Quality & Safety and the Trauma Medical Director at the Massachusetts General

Hospital. 

  • Between 2022 and 2023, Dr. Kaafarani served as the Chief Patient Safety Officer of The Joint Commission. In that role, he was the president’s designee to prioritize patient safety concerns at Joint Commission-accredited health care organizations, provided oversight and medical expertise for the Office of Quality and Patient Safety, and oversaw data management and analysis related to the Sentinel Event Database. 
  • His previous roles include Director of the MGH Center for Outcomes & Patient Safety in Surgery (COMPASS) and Director of the MGH Wound Center. Dr. Kaafarani is a recognized authority and speaker with more than 450 published peer-reviewed manuscripts and textbook chapters with a focus on surgical patient safety from intake to discharge, benchmarking quality care, peer support, and the use of artificial intelligence for risk modeling and predicting outcomes. He has won numerous awards, including a nomination to the Ellis Island Medal of Honor and the 2024 Robert L. Wears Patient Safety Leadership National Award. Dr. Kaafarani received his Master of Public Health from Harvard University and his doctorate from the American University of Beirut, Lebanon. He holds certifications in surgery and surgical critical care from the American Board of Surgery.

Joseph Jabbra, PhD Board Member

President Emeritus, Lebanese American University (LAU).

  • Dr. Jabbra’s leadership has launched the university on the path of institutional and academic renaissance. Supported by outside gifts and strong internal human and financial resources, he enabled LAU to develop and implement three vigorous five-year strategic plans. These plans have encompassed opening new schools (medicine and nursing with two university hospitals (one in Beirut and the other in Jounieh, north of Beirut), developing new programs and sustaining existing ones; attracting new professors and empowering current faculty; putting in place an ambitious capital plan; implementing LAU’s three major comprehensive campaigns for excellence entitled, “The Legacy and the Promise,” “Fulfilling the Promise,” and “LAU Dares.” Dr. Jabbra also prepared the university to meet the highest academic standards in order to achieve accreditation from the New England Association of Schools and Colleges (NEASC), Later New England Commission on Higher Education, (NECHE). 
  • Prior to his role at LAU, Dr. Jabbra served as Academic Vice President at Loyola Marymount University (LMU) in Los Angeles, California, from 1990 to 2004. He had earlier served as Vice President, Academic and Research, at St. Mary’s University (SMU) in Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada, from 1980 to 1990.
  • Dr. Jabbra earned his law degree at the Université Saint-Joseph in Beirut, and a Ph.D. in Political Science from the Catholic University of America in Washington, D.C.
  • He is the author, co-author, and co-editor of 13 books.

Lana Yaghi, Esq Board Member

Lana Yaghi is a Partner at the law firm of Husch Blackwell LLP and is based in Washington, DC. 

  • She is a cross-border transactional attorney who concentrates her practice on corporate and commercial matters, with a focus on aviation, cybersecurity, and defense. She regularly advises U.S. and foreign clients on their business activities, particularly in connection with the establishment of operations, consideration of corporate governance matters, and negotiation and structuring of commercial arrangements. 
  • A significant portion of her work relates to the representation of clients, including Fortune 500 companies and high-net-worth individuals, in connection with the acquisition, sale, and financing of corporate aircraft.
  • Lana has been consistently recognized by Best LawyersTM for her expertise in Corporate Governance and Compliance Law, Corporate Law, and Transportation Law. 
  • She has also been recognized by the National Law Journal as one of their 2020 40 under 40 D.C. Rising Stars and by the Middle East Policy Council as one of their 2023 40 under 40 awardees.
  • Lana currently serves on the Board of Directors of the American Task Force for Lebanon.
